Most international students who come to Australia tend to stay back in Australia and apply for permanent residency. However after completing an MBA degree, students have very few options to do this. Here we explore some of these options:
The first option is to apply for a 485 visa which allows the MBA graduate to gain some work experience. This is also called the Skilled Graduate visa. This is a temporary visa that has two streams: Graduate work stream and Post-study work stream.
The third option is to gain state sponsorship and then apply for permanent residency in a relevant skill area. Every state has their own separate skill list and work experience requirements. So you will need to have your relevant skill area and some relevant work experience to become eligible to apply. To apply for permanent residency in Australia, you need to have a minimum of 65 points.

- For MBAs, the only option is the post-study work stream. This stream is available for students who commenced their study after November 2011. If you have an MBA which has a Research component attached, then you could get a three year visa.
- After a 485 visa, the student can either apply for a 457 visa or a state sponsorship as explained in the options below.

As explained by the author of the blog "International students who have completed a two year study in Australia are eligible to apply for this visa". Now what most India MBA aspirants who want to enroll in an Australian MBA program doesn't realize is that most Australian MBA's, eg:- AGSM Full time MBA, are of 16 month duration. Now what this means is that post MBA it would be hard for international students to extend their visa since the course duration is shy of the stipulated 24 months PG coursework program. Coupled with the fact that most Australian companies prefer international students who already have valid visa (since it reduces cost for the company which it would otherwise incur if it were to sponsor the visa) , it makes that much more difficult for any international student to find a job post MBA. Now from what i hear, what most students do post MBA is to enroll in an another program immediately after MBA so that they could extend their visa and find jobs in the interim. This makes you wonder, is an MBA from Australia truly worth the time, money and effort. My apologies for painting such a grim picture but i would love to hear from international students who have graduated to correct me if i am wrong.
